"Why Is the Website Free?" The Honest Answer (and the Catch)

A free, custom-built website sounds too good to be true โ€” so here's exactly how it works, how we actually make money, what's included, and where the honest catch is.

"Why Is the Website Free?" The Honest Answer (and the Catch)

If someone offered to build your business a professional, custom website for free, your first instinct should be suspicion. You didn't grow a service business by ignoring the phrase too good to be true.

So let's not dance around it. Here's exactly how a free website works, how we keep the lights on, what you actually get, and where the honest catch is.

The Short Version

We build you a custom, lead-focused website โ€” designed, set up, and launched โ€” at no cost. You own it. No build fee, no setup fee, no contract.

We make money only if, later, you decide you'd like us to keep handling it for you โ€” edits, Google, booking, new pages โ€” through an optional monthly Care or Pro plan. Most of our revenue comes from owners who'd simply rather run their business than babysit a website.

The One-Sentence Business Model

We give away the build because a fast, well-ranked site tends to be one people want help maintaining โ€” and a small share of happy owners choosing optional support pays for the builds of everyone who never does.

So... What's the Catch?

There's no hidden one. But there are honest tradeoffs, and you deserve to hear them plainly:

You bring (or buy) your own domain. Hosting and a free web address are included. If you want your own .com, that's about $12-20/year, paid to a registrar โ€” not to us. We never hold your domain hostage.

Support is optional, not free forever. You get 90 days of free support after launch. After that, if you want us making changes for you, that's a paid plan. Prefer to make simple edits yourself, or just leave it running? You can โ€” at $0.

We build for service businesses. Pool, HVAC, landscaping, contractors, pest, cleaning, and the like. If you need an online store with 4,000 products, we're not your team โ€” and we'll tell you so.

It's "done for you," not "done in an afternoon." We move fast โ€” most builds go live in days, not weeks โ€” but a real, lead-ready site is still built around your towns, services, and booking flow.

Why Would Anyone Give This Away?

Three reasons, and none of them are a gotcha:

1. The build is the cheap part; the relationship is the value. Once a site is live, fast, and ranking, owners often want a hand keeping it that way. We'd rather earn that honestly โ€” by being useful โ€” than by charging thousands up front.

2. A great site sells itself. When your free site out-ranks the competitor who paid an agency $6,000, you tell people. That word-of-mouth is cheaper for us than ads.

3. We're betting on you growing. A landscaper with one town today might serve five next year. We do better when you do.

What 'Free' Actually Includes

A custom, mobile-first design ยท service-area pages built for local SEO ยท click-to-call and online booking ยท fast hosting ยท a free web address ยท and 90 days of support after launch โ€” all at no cost, and yours to keep.

"Free" vs. the Things People Fear

What owners worry aboutWhat's actually true
"They'll lock me in"No contract; the site, content, and customer data are yours
"They'll hold my domain hostage"You own your domain; we never gate it behind a payment
"Free means a junky template"It's a custom build designed for your trade and your towns
"There'll be a surprise bill"The build is $0; the only cost is optional support you choose later

How to Pressure-Test Any "Free" Offer (Including Ours)

Don't take our word for it. Before you say yes to anyone offering a free build, ask:

  • Do I own the site, the content, and my customer data? (The answer must be yes.)
  • Is there a contract or a cancellation fee? (There shouldn't be.)
  • What, specifically, costs money โ€” and when?
  • Can I leave and take my domain and rankings with me?

If a "free" offer can't answer those cleanly, walk away. Ours can.

The Honest Bottom Line

Free doesn't mean worthless, and it doesn't mean a trap. It means we make our money the slow, honest way โ€” by building something good enough that you choose to keep us around.

Curious where your current site stands first? Run a free Site Health Check โ€” no signup โ€” and see exactly what's helping or hurting you today. Then, if you want, we'll build you something better, free.

No build fee, no setup fee, no contract. Optional Care or Pro support only if you want it.
